Reverend Billy C. Wirtz at the Depot... Saturday, April 21st

A comic genius, gifted pianist and American musicologist who defies easy classification...
"I like to think of myself as the Victor Borge of the blues," states the Reverend. But, Billy goes way beyond Borge both in scope of subject matter (from politics to social commentary) and, of course, in taste. No theme seems too extreme, taboo, or undignified, as long as it garners a good laugh.

Born in Aiken, S.C.  in 1954, Billy C. Wirtz took up keyboard in high school but didn't play in earnest until the end of his college days at James Madison. As a gifted sideman, he played with various D.C. bands, including Root Boy Slim & the Sex Change Band, Evan Johns & the H-Bombs, and the original Nighthawks.

Goateed and tattooed, he is the antithesis of the ordinary concept of a preacher. Like an itinerant revivalist in a carnival tent, he often employs his stage persona to set the scene. He transforms into a comedian, twisted televangelist, barrel-house piano player "overcome by the spirit".

$25 at the door, day of show.
Purchase $20 Online Advance Tickets.

Listen to the Reverend playing  Roberta..
Listen to the Reverend playing Too Old.
